FOLLOW THIS LIST OF ACTION ITEMS TO GET MENDOZA APPROVAL FOR YOUR STUDY ABROAD APPLICATION:

Important Note:  This information does not apply to students applying for SUMMER programs only.  Summer study abroad applications DO NOT require Advisor & Dean approval.

  1.        SCHEDULE YOUR MENDOZA ADVISING MEETING BY THE 10/13/17 DEADLINE

Those applying for Fall or Spring programs get ONE study abroad meeting so it is important to come prepared.  Schedule it soon using the link on your Student Dashboard - appointment slots fill quickly. You risk not receiving college approval for your application if you miss this deadline.

a.  Do your homework on the programs you’re interested in.  Attend the info sessions and read the detailed information available on NDI’s website.  There are no preferred Mendoza programs.

b.  Be sure you understand the application process and deadlines.  NDI has put together some helpful videos to make sure you’re informed. The FAQs on our website are also a good starting point.

c. You may pick any of the advisors but the meeting must happen before fall break and you must have an appointment.  We will not accept walk-ins for study abroad approvals.

d.  You will have questions.  You won’t be sure your plan is 100% accurate.  That’s OK.  That’s what the advisor meeting is for.

  1.        REVISE YOUR PLAN OF STUDY BEFORE YOUR MEETING!

Review the sample plans and follow the directions on our website to update your personal plan of study.  You can find a copy of your plan on your Mendoza eportfolio.  Copy your plan to a new tab labeled with the international location and then make your modifications (see directions on the website).

a.  You only need to do a plan for ONE location although other locations can be discussed at your meeting.

b.  You will take very few business courses abroad so you’ll need to move things around.  You may defer 1-2 of the (green) junior core requirements if necessary but we strongly recommend you complete Foresight in your junior semester on main campus.

c.  Be sure to include any courses required by your program.  These are clearly noted on NDI’s summary sheets for each program.

  1.        POST YOUR UPDATED PLAN OF STUDY

Post the updated plan to your eportfolio in advance of your advisor meeting!  Be sure to save and publish so it is visible to the advisors.

  1.        START YOUR STUDY ABROAD APPLICATION

a.  The Mendoza advisor you met with is the DUS.

b.  If you have a second major, list that department’s advisor as 2nd DUS.  Minors do not require separate approval.

c.  The Dean is ALWAYS Dale Nees and you do not need a separate appointment with him to get approval. DO NOT email Assistant Dean Nees or Dean Roger Huang with study abroad questions – work through an advisor.

d.  Academic references are no longer required by all programs.  Read your application carefully.

e.  Specific questions regarding the application should be directed to NDI.
