What do I need to know about ELECTIVES? (FAQ)

Answer

There are four key things to know about your elective requirements:

  1. 21 elective credits must be selected from courses outside of the College of Business.  These may be satisfied with AP credits, transfer credits and/or courses taken at Notre Dame.
  2. The remaining elective credits required to reach an overall total of 128 credits are unrestricted in that they may be applied to business or non-business classes.  To be clear, there is no requirement to take additional electives in business.
  3. A maximum of three credit hours of activity or experiential learning non-business courses can be applied as elective credit.  A listing of these courses is posted here.
  4. The GPS that tracks your courses and requirements is a wonderful tool, but there are occasionally glitches that cause issues in the elective section.  If you have any concerns about the way the GPS is counting your courses, please see an advisor.

What is the minimum number of credit hours required to graduate from the College of Business? (FAQ)

Answer

Currently, students in Mendoza graduating in the Class of 2024 and 2025, must have 128 credit hours to earn their BBA degree.  The Class of 2026 and onward, must have at least 122 credit hours to earn their BBA degree. Use the Graduation Progress System (GPS) on insideND and the plan of study saved to your Google Drive under "Shared with Me" to track your requirements each semester.  Keep in mind that only three credits deemed activity or experiential learning will be counted as degree seeking credits.  See a complete list of courses subject to this limit here.

Advising

Our goal in the Office of Undergraduate Studies is to ensure that every business student maximizes the opportunities available to him/her during their three years in Mendoza.  We work hard to disseminate timely and accurate information and raise awareness of the many ways students may grow and learn in and outside the classroom.

While many simple questions regarding deadlines and policies/procedures are answered on this site, business students are encouraged to be actively involved in setting their academic course in the Mendoza College of Business by meeting regularly with an advisor.  Brief bios for each member of our team can be found on the About Us page.

Advisors are available to help students:

  • Create a long-range plan of study
  • Identify personal and mutually constructed academic, personal, and professional goals
  • Determine graduation requirements. Students are also encouraged to refer regularly to their personal audit on the Graduation Progress System available through insideND
  • Investigate majors, minors, and programs both inside and outside the College of Business.  Additional information on adding second majors and minors can be found here
  • Schedule courses and discuss the impact of adding or dropping a course during the semester
  • Determine eligibility for International Study programs
  • Deal with academic difficulties and review strategies for enhancing academic success
