Yes, you may apply to both semester and summer programs. These decisions are made independently of each other.
Students are able to study abroad through another university during the summer. These courses are treated as transfer courses and students may receive academic credit for their courses as long as they meet our contact hour requirements and have been pre-approved by the relevant department. Students interested in this option should speak with an advisor to plan which courses to take and to begin the transfer course approval process via eforms.
Students who would like to transfer a course from another university must receive pre-approval from the appropriate academic department before doing so. A maximum of two courses (up to eight credits) may be taken at another school each summer. A grade of C or better must be earned in order to receive transfer credit for the course. The transfer course pre-approval form is available on the eForm link on your Student Academic Tab on insideND Students are responsible for obtaining all necessary approvals prior to leaving for the summer. Please note that all business courses must be taken at Notre Dame. It is also important to note that only the credits will transfer. The grade earned in a summer course does not get factored into your Notre Dame GPA. A Registrar's Office Transfer Credit Search website is also available for reference.
To transfer your credits, after being granted prior approval by your advising dean, please request your official transcript from the other institution upon completing the course. Electronic transcripts are preferred and should be sent to regtransfer@nd.edu.
